Granite Falls History & Transportation Museum

The Granite Falls History Committee will sponsor a local artists exhibit at the Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum beginning Saturday, August 7, 2010 through October 31, 2010. Most of the artists are from Granite Falls and the art works on display will include scenes from the beach, scenes from the mountains and renderings of animals, local churches, days gone by and much more. The art works on display were done in various media including water color, oil, mixed media, collage, pencil, charcoal and color-stick. Some of the art work will be for sale. If any Granite Falls area resident has art work they would like to exhibit, they can contact History Committee Vice Chairman Sara Moore Putzell at 396-1524. Museum hours for this art exhibit will be each Saturday, beginning August 7th from 12 noon until 4:00 pm and each Sunday, beginning August 8th from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The museum is located at 107 Falls Avenue, Granite Falls.

The Town of Granite Falls purchased the historic home of Andrew Baird, one of the Town's original founders, which was built in the 1790's and stands today as the second oldest home in Caldwell County. The Town was awarded an NC Department of Transportation Enhancement Grant in the amount of $335,000, which was used to perform a historic restoration, construct sidewalks and bike paths and to acquire transportation related artifacts.

The Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum celebrated its Grand Opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 18, 2007.
