Granite Falls History & Transportation Museum
The Town of Granite Falls purchased the historic home of Andrew Baird, one of the Town's original founders, which was built in the 1790's and stands today as the second oldest home in Caldwell County. The Town was awarded an NC Department of Transportation Enhancement Grant in the amount of $335,000, which was used to perform a historic restoration, construct sidewalks and bike paths and to acquire transportation related artifacts.
The Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum celebrated its Grand Opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 18, 2007.
The Granite Falls History Committee sponsors events and exhibits at the Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum in addition to the memorabilia displayed commemorating the Town’s history. Examples include art displays by students from local schools, displays of local artists, works of literature by Town residents or former residents and recently a unique teacup exhibit. Each year the museum is fully decorated in celebration of the Christmas season. In the near future the History Committee plans to open an exhibit of sports memorabilia featuring athletes and coaches with connections to the Town of Granite Falls.
